Hans-Joachim Frey
Graduated from Hamburg Higher School of Music and Theater in specialty of the music theatre director in 1990. In 1993, he received an education of the cultural manager at Hamburg Higher School of Music and Theater.
From 1997 to 2007 he was Artistic Director of Dresden State Opera, from 2007 to 2011 he held a position of the Artistic Director and General Director of Theater Bremen. Since 2011, he has been an invited professor at Seoul Arts College and EWHA University. In 2006 we have founded the SemperOpernball in Dresden, which has become the biggest cultural event throught the years. The 15-th Ball will be held on February 7 in 2020. Hans-Joachim is the Chairman of the Management Board and Artistic Director of the event. Since 2012 – the Artistic Director and the General Director of Bruckner House concert hall in Linz, since 2013 — the advisor to General Director of the State Academic Bolshoi Theatre of Russia, since 2017 – the artistic director of the educational foundation “Talent and Success”.
Hans-Joachim Frey is one of the founders and the all-time head of the International Italian Opera Singers Contest which is a reputable festival of young singers from all over the world. According to Hans-Joachim, the main feature of Competizione dell’Opera is that it is focused on the young performers’ career. “The contest jury always include potential employers for the young singers: agents, directors of opera houses, casting directors. They see a suitable singer at the contest and immediately offer them a voice part in a performance or a theatre employment contract. This is a chance to be heard and noted in Europe”.
In 2019, the Competizione dell’Opera contest has been held in Sochi, in Sirius Science and Art Park. Next year the event will take place in Mexico.
Hans-Joachim Frey succesfully works as an opera director. His play has been shown in different opera houses in the world.
